Jake applying a "Moss Milkshake" to the stone planter
Jake heard about growing moss and lichens using a technique called the "Moss Milkshake," and so we tried it out. We collected moss and lichens from a stone wall in our back yard and then mixed them in a blender with milk, sour cream, and sugar. Then Jake painted the mixture onto the stone planter at Red Hen. In a year or two, hopefully, we'll see some really neat moss and lichens growing. Also note the slab of soapstone I tried hanging from a rope on the front of the fence. The idea is that we could use it like a chalkboard. I think it needs some custom iron hangers from Peter O'Shaughnessy. -- JB
