Reviews, news

A great review from the Roanoke Times that begins, "Once in a while, a restaurant comes along where extraordinary preparation of locally produced food is the focus, and suddenly it becomes a favorite destination; its name is on everyone's lips." http://www.roanoke.com/entertainment/insideout/eat/wb/207924

Review by the Staunton News Leader: "The Red Hen offers a chance to experience locally grown and harvested foods in a relaxed atmosphere with elegant overtones...Imagination and raw talent showcase the area's best foods in a way that makes The Red Hen a special dining destination." http://www.newsleader.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2009905170317

Also, note that every Wednesday this summer we will offer a Farmer's Market Dinner Special-- Chef Tucker will create a three-course menu based on what he finds at the Lexington Farmer's Market that day for only $30. It's a great deal and a fun way to explore ways to prepare the best seasonal ingredients throughout the summer.

Recently enjoyed a delicious, if somewhat odd, dinner at the Red Hen. The staff seemed a bit cliquish, and, except for our waitress herself, somewhat bemused by a group enjoying themselves--whilst quietly and most assuredly spending copious amounts of money. We were told the only reservations were for 5:30 but during our 2 hours there only one other table was seated. Go figure. Good concept. Lovely space. Staff needs to remember they're the hired help.
